WEEK 1

Week 1 has come to a close. My first seven days of unemployment.. What a frenzy the days have gone by in! I hardly have had time to write on my dear blog.. But what a successful week it was..
Last Monday was MLK day. So I kicked of my first day of unemployment with going to the MLK day parade. I have always wanted to go and always been at work. I swam a mile at the gym.  I read emails that I never had a chance to get to when working.

It’s funny how many things you never get to do when you’re stuck  40 hours a week behind a desk. Well that burden was no longer upon me.. I was swinging into action.

Throughout the week I went and had lunch with a friend, we talked over tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches. I picked up some oil for my boyfriend when he returns from Alaska. He drives a diesel van which he converted to run on veggie oil. So my friend saved up some oil for him.

I spent Tuesday afternoon going to a matinée with my boyfriends mother. Her mother passed away the previous week and she was in need of a good laugh. I could have used one as well. So we spent the afternoon munching on buttery popcorn and dying laughing together watching It’s Complicated, a romantic comedy. I have a secret love for romantic comedies. This one was particularly good. (The critics don’t agree but what do they know..)

I began, what  is going to be  a massive project. PROJECT DOWNSIZING.. Basically I have years and years worth of crap. I am trying to get rid of what I do not need, minimize my possessions. I sometimes feel like I am on the verge of becoming a pack rat (some may argue that I am already there).  Plus as I grow older I realize that the value lies more within the quality of our days, the people we surround ourselves with, not the items that we feel we feel we must have. I must say I am quite proud of myself. To date… I have gotten rid of about 10 boxes of junk.. I have set aside another 5 boxes to go in a garage sale I am hosting in a few weeks….For more information on this massive de-junking project I am head deep in..Check out the category dedicated to the whirlwind of boxes being sorted through, the memories surfacing.. and my growing and learning to let go of things unnecessary…

I worked out five times last week. I love the gym. I love that I am getting more time to go there. I swam a mile, went to my favorite classes. This week I am shooting for six days at the gym. I figured I have to work up to only having one day off.

I went to the Vinoy for the first time since my arrival to Florida. Of course I have ridden my bike, walked my dog, and driven past the place a million times. But I have always felt a little out-of-place going there. It is where the élite of St Petersburg hang out. I met an old friend from the PREVIOUS work there. We had drinks. I got the tour. I saw the governor while I was there. Their drinks were good (I had two Cosmopolitians..I figured they were appropriate) as well as the complimentary nut mix.

Saturday was sweet. I went with a couple of friends to Ft. Desoto. One of my friends has two daughters, they went as well. It was fun hanging out with them. They insisted I sit in the backseat by them to and from the fort. They are really awesome girls.

All in all last week was very productive. It’s amazing. Whenever I am off of work, I quickly am reminded… I don’t know how I ever had time to get things done when I had a job!

Let’s see how week 2 goes..

  1. Six days a week at the gym!? Oy vey!

I think “Project Downsize” is inspiring. You’re very, very right about how life is about the company we keep –– not the stuff we keep.

Your description of the Vinoy makes me think of F. Scott Fitzgerald. :) Hope you have another excellent day of unemployment, Daisy Buchanan!

  2. Ah ha! I now have proof you love romantic comedies!

    • shooot you know you do too…
